Hi, my name is

Line.

I leverage natural language processing and large language models to design intelligent, data-driven workflows.

PhD in Neurolinguistics (City, University of London).

About Me

I am a data scientist specialising in text processing. My background is in linguistics and academic research, and I hold a PhD in neurolinguistics. I am currently working as a data scientist freelancer in Berlin, Germany.

The project I work on at the moment is around automated text summarising and automatising text-mining workflows.

Here is my main tech stack:
  • Python
  • SQL
  • Natual Language Processing
  • Large Language Models (LLM) & RAG
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Machine Learning
  • Hugging Face
  • LangChain

Experience

Data Science Freelancer - Freelance
Since Sep 2025
I currently work as a data science freelancer in Berlin, Germany. My current project is on automatic text-mining and generating AI-assisted summaries of research papers.
Senior Data Scientist - Futurelearn
Aug 2021 - Nov 2022

I worked as a senior data scientist at Futurelearn in London, UK.

  • Development of recommendation engine to suggest new courses to users (Built two versions: 1. for engaged users, leveraging user-course interactions like enrolments, purchases and page views; 2. for less engaged users leveraging information of users based on personal questions on sign-up).
  • Built time-series forecasting models: arima, exponential smoothing, Prophet (Python).
  • Designed, implemented machine learning models (e.g. regression, classification) and productionised them (e.g. AWS, Sagemaker, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Used natural language processing (Python) for the optimisation of SEO (e.g. automatisation of keyword categorisation).
  • Mentored junior members of the team (e.g. helped one employee to transition from the Insights team to the DS team, onboarded three employees providing support with technical skills, processes and guiding through projects and the DS roadmap).
  • Developed data science best practices and guidelines.
Data Scientist - Futurelearn
Jun 2017 - Aug 2021

I worked as a data scientist at Futurelearn in London, UK.

  • Generated insights from data that directly impacted product development and/or increase conversion.
  • Developed and deployed machine learning models in Python ( e.g. linear/logistic regression, classification, decision trees, Random Forest, XGBoost), achieving up to 15% improvement in prediction accuracy for key business metrics.
  • Defined, analysed and monitored new key success measures such as average lifetime value (built in SQL).
  • Delivered workshops in Databases and PostgreSQL for other employees (with excellent feedback on communication and teaching skills).
  • Consulted teams with design and analysis of A/B tests (developed an A/B testing design flowchart for product teams in collaboration with product designer)
  • Worked within cross-functional teams as data advisor.
Research Assistant Psychology - City University of London
Nov 2015 - Apr 2016

I worked as a research assistant in the Psychology department at City, University of London in London, UK.

  • Preparation of data collection and recruitment of study participants.
  • Administration of lab-based experiments on audio-visual speech comprehension using MATLAB.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving during lab work.
Research Assistant, Language and Communication Science - City University of London
Nov 2014 - Apr 2016

I worked as a research assistant in the department of Language and Communication Science at City, University of London in London, UK.

Projects

Sound Installation
Python Raspberry Pi
Sound Installation
Making animals talk triggered by movement (credit to the idea goes to my daughter). For personal portfolio.
Chatbot with RAG
ChromaDB SentenceTransformer OpenAI Ollama
Chatbot with RAG
I built a chatbot that answers questions, using a FAQ dataset. I used SentenceTransformer as an embedding model, which leverages Transformer models like BERT and generates sentence embeddings. For personal portfolio.

Achievements

PhD Studentship (City, University of London)
Given a PhD Studentship to study in London, UK.
Recipient of the Graduate Award (University of Hamburg, Germany)
Best thesis of faculty.
Recipient of the "GAB Förderpreis" (Research price)
Prize for a research study (Issued by Fund from German Association for Aphasia Research and Treatment)
